Q: What is Geocaching?
A: (from the official
Geocaching website)
Geocaching is an entertaining adventure game for
gps users. Participating in a cache hunt is a
good way to take advantage of the wonderful
features and capability of a gps unit. The basic
idea is to have individuals and organizations
set up caches all over the world and share the
locations of these caches on the internet. GPS
users can then use the location coordinates to
find the caches. Once found, a cache may provide
the visitor with a wide variety of rewards. All
the visitor is asked to do is if they get
something they should try to leave something for
the cache. (you can read all the official FAQ's
from the
Geocaching website)
Q: What type of GPS do you
recommend?
A: I can't really
recommend anything because I have only used a
few units. I can tell you, however, I use a
Magellan Expolrist
600.
It is one of the top of the line GPS units that
Magellan makes, I LOVE
IT!
Prior to this I used a
Megellan Expolrist 200, and while I
really liked that one as well, I wanted to
more horsepower and Geocaching features.
All and all I find
my Magellan Explorist 600 to be a very good (and
VERY accurate) GPS for the $$. It is a terrific
unit that was simply made for Geocaching, while
also having other features that come in useful
(such as driving directions). I really
cant say enough about this unit. The accuracy is
amazing!
